Eid Mubarak

Traditional shopping for Eid al-Fitr (day of breaking the fast) is simultaneously looking forward to the people you will meet, be they family or friends. Actually, it is similar to Christmas shopping where choosing food and presents precedes the visit of the people you care about.

To prepare for my Eid al-Fitr I went to Al Hafa frankincense souq or marketplace in Salalah, Dhofar in the south of Oman.

The smell of the incense and the sale of walking sticks locally called așā reminded me of ” The Custodians,” as the back cover of this book -my latest publication – claims: “Only when you know how to read the frankincense smoke you see the whole story.”

Since the crescent moon has not been sighted, Saturday, April 22, will be the first day of Eid al-Fitr in Oman.
