My nocturnal journey

In Hans Op de Beeck’s “Nocturnal Journey”, his largest solo exhibition in his own country, in Belgium, the lifelike sculptures, the video art and the experimental soundscapes are his. As I walked through the dark and latent nocturnal exhibition hall of the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp (KMSKA), I wondered: am I looking at someone else’s dreams? Aren’t dreams the expression of our inner self?

But why did I suddenly stop in front of the statue of “Zhai-Liza (Angel)”? And why from my inner silence questions came? “Little angel, do fairy tales still exist?” And then… “You look tired. Can I help you make the world magical again?” Of course, there were no answers, or… maybe there were. Ultimately this angel raised those questions in me. Or to put it in the words of Carl Gustav Jung: “Who looks outside, dreams, who looks inside, awakes.”

  1. Beautiful exposition and beautiful quote by Carl Jung. Really enjoyed sharing this with you!

    leerrijk. Dankjewel Maria
